Graceville Downs Alpacas is located in the beautiful rural town of Woodend, just an hour north of Melbourne and close to the infamous Hanging Rock (remember Picnic at Hanging Rock?)—yep, same place.
We own a small but very high quality herd of Huacaya Alpaca; this includes 1 working stud male Soft Foot Ryjel and another boy who has just had his first mating, GD Tuscany. Tuscany is the son of an SRS Multi Champion, Ross Creek Arctic Lad, who we have recently sold to Bonnie Vale Alpaca where he will join the SRS stud team.
Tuscany is now following in his Sire’s footsteps with several Reserve Championships and picking up his first Adult Championship in late 2007. We have not shown the boys during the later part of 2007 due to the length of their fleece, which was close to 12 cm. Tuscany’s sale page.
Soft Foot Ryjel is a Multi Champion Male with a very gentle nature, something that has always been a major requirement in our breeding programme as this gentle nature is passed on to the cria.
We have been in Alpaca for almost 15 years now and have decided to move into retirement from Alpaca. With a few health issues we can no longer ignore the scream from so many muscles, at the end of a day of toenails, cleaning up poo or the other thousand jobs required around a property.
Over the years we have sold alpaca to many happy breeders in many states of Australia, and having made the decision to retire our herd is rapidly reducing in numbers. As girls are being remated and confirmed pregnant they are being listed for sale. Our males sell very quickly due to the quality of their dams and sires. Ryjel will not be sold until all pregnant girls sold have delivered strong healthy babies, but we will take enquiries from interested parties who will be looking for a new stud male in around 12 months’ time.
